Cut-out & service works

The safe first step for almost any electrical upgrade.

The service cut-out is where the network's supply meets your property. Installing, replacing or re-siting it is authorised work — and it's exactly what Future Electrics is trusted by the network operators to do.

What is a cut-out?

The link between the network and your meter

The service cut-out is the unit that houses the main fuse where the Distribution Network Operator's cable enters your property and connects to your meter. It is the network's equipment — sealed, and not something a general electrician is permitted to work on.

As an authorised contractor for SP Energy Networks, Future Electrics is trusted to install, replace, upgrade and re-site cut-outs safely and to network standards — the essential groundwork for a huge range of electrical projects.

Please don't touch the seal

The cut-out carries a tamper seal and sits before your meter. Interfering with it is dangerous and illegal. If yours is damaged, scorched or overheating, keep clear and contact an authorised contractor.

When you'll need it

Upgrading your home or premises? Start here.

Cut-out works are the first move behind most electrical improvements. Here's when to get us involved.

Meter upgrades & moves

A smart-meter fit or a relocated meter position often needs the cut-out replaced or re-sited first.

EV charger installs

Adding an electric-vehicle charge point can require an upgraded cut-out and service to carry the extra load.

Heat pumps

Air-source and ground-source heat pumps may need the incoming supply and cut-out uprated.

Solar & battery storage

New generation and storage connections start with a safe, correctly-rated service cut-out.

Rewires & renovations

Full rewires and extensions are the ideal moment to bring an ageing cut-out up to standard.

Damaged or unsafe cut-outs

Cracked, scorched, overheating or tampered cut-outs must be made safe by an authorised contractor.
